No experience required

First-time storytellers, working actors and writers, comedians, professionals and the simply curious. Content is adapted to the age and experience of each group.

THE CURRICULUM

Module 01 · From Idea to Screen

Develop original concepts, characters and scripts, then follow the path from idea to finished screen: directing, collaboration and independent producing.

Module 02 · The Comic Voice: Writing & Performing Comedy

Find your comic point of view through observational humor, character-based comedy, dialogue and short-form sketches. Participants may develop a comic premise or short scene.

Module 03 · Make It Happen: Indie Filmmaking on a Budget

Plan achievable productions with limited resources: scope, team, shoot preparation, working with performers and sharing finished work.

Dana Marisa Schoenfeld

Award-winning filmmaker with honors in writing, directing, producing, acting and editing. Stand-up comedian featured in festivals across the country, with a solo show, Grow a Set, at the Edinburgh Fringe. Creator, writer, director and star of the comedy series EAST, and founder of Main Sequence Studios.

FORMAT & DELIVERY

How it runs

Interactive discussion, real-world examples and optional exercises. Introductory sessions run 60 to 90 minutes; longer practical workshops are available by arrangement.

Presented at Fringe-registered venues or as school incursions, subject to scheduling, venue arrangements and school requirements.

Practical tools for generating ideas, developing characters, planning achievable projects and approaching independent creative work with confidence.
